Shhhhhh

So things have been real quiet here recently......said no one.  Actually I haven't been able to get too much done as we picked up a puppy Sat the 27th. The shelter named him Frankenstein or "Frankie" for short.  We actually like the name so are going to stick with it.

He is a real killer you can tell by that look in his eyes.

What I also haven't mentioned is that on Aug 4th 2012 I started a 365 day challenge to work on something warhammer every day. I have been able to get some small amounts done here and there with him around, but nothing huge.

I hope to write up some info on the next campaign round here shortly.

Rd 2 Blood in the Badlands - Post Game

Huzzah!

So the Bretonnians managed a win yesterday for the campaign.  Although really the only reason I won is because my peasants passed a crucial breaktest to stop a unit of bloodletters from flanking my bsb & generals unit.

My opponent is fairly new to the game so there wasn't alot of maneuvering in this game. We basically crashed in the middle and slugged it out from there.  Hopefully as time progresses I'll add in actual battle reports.

There are some things that will need addressing in the list so I'll just run through them based on the selection.

Lord

Lord- Worked out fairly well.  He did his fair share of killing, but my opponent didn't have any large gribbly that needed to be HKBed.  So he settled on smacking the BSB and other bloodletters around.

Heros

Paladin BSB- Worked out well, the 2+ reroll is great and Str 5 helps with the grind after the charge.  This will most likely be my kit for some time.

Lvl 2- She did very well in her roll.  I forgot to remove her from the unit before they got in combat so that caused he a death by Stabbedinthefaceitis by a khorne herald.  She did manage to duck and weave through 4 rounds of combat. The main thing is I think I will try and find the points to upgrade her to a lvl 4 with heavens to help blast units from afar.

Core

Men at Arms - Did an amazing job of tying up blood letters for approx 5 turns thanks to the ward save and good Leadership tests.  I think they will become the standard part of my force.  Being able to tie up large blocks of high strength units is amazing

3 X 10 Bowmen- Didn't do much this game besides the occasional wound.  My opponent didn't have any chaff for them to target and no regeneration for their flaming to help out.

Knights with Swiftness banner- They functioned well with the BSB.  The +1 movement is nice, but didn't really have a factor in this game.

Knights with Leadership banner- Did what they were supposed too and provided bodies to protect the lord and give him the +1 leadership for the ability to broadcast LD10

Knights Errant- Didn't due much and got ran off the board.  I don't think they are bad, but I may need to add in a hero to give these guys more punch after the charge.  I feel they could have won their combat if they had something with higher than Str 3 after the first round.

Special
Mounted Yeomen- Didn't get a chance to do much.  They will need further testing

Pegasus Knights- Died a nasty death to blood crushers.  They will need further testing.

Rare

2 X Trebuchets - Did good as they always do

4 Grail Knights with Flaming banner - Held up a bloodcrusher unit long enough for reinforcements arrived to finish them.  May give them another try to see how they pan out.

So I'll find out what my spoils are tonight at campaign night and see who will face the might of Bretonnia next.

Rd 2 Blood in the Badlands - Pregame

I didn't get to save much for my round 1 battle, but the short story is I lost.  Although it was one that I should have won, but a stupid mistake on my part cost me the game.  My opponent brought a theme Strigoi list which was still pretty nasty.  Although that is enough dwelling on the past.

The campaign event I received was Scouts so I get to see what my opponent will be playing before picking a list.  So I wrote up a little scouting report to hold me over until he posts some info.

"My lord we have the demon host surrounded." the messenger puffing out his chest with the announcement of the good news. "Sire, shall I have the forces roused for battle?"  Sir Francis was already leaving the command tent before his question was answered.  "Hold fast Sir Francis. Have the forces prepare for battle but let me see what the hell spawns muster for war.  We have been chasing them for so long I would at least like to have some sport of it." Lord Bertrand du Guesclin puzzled his subjects with his restraint.  "Clearly the Lady has blessed us with the trapping of our prey and the arrival of my Parravon Crown Reserve.  Let us enjoy and wait for the beasts to show themselves." Lord Bertrand waved the servers over then started to sip his brandy while he looked over the scout report of the demon host.

The list I am currently planning on bringing

It has begun!

So, finally getting around to getting pics of my army with everything assembled.  I was going to include a spiffy picture of my first painted Knight Errant, but they were a little too blurry for my liking.  More than likely I'll just jump to posting a picture of when he is complete.

Here it is the current assembled forces of Bretonnia.  I have some other metal character models, but since I don't plan on using them in regular play I didn't want to include them.  So the only character is lonely Sir Francis on foot.

 BOOM-SHACK-A-LACKA

I wasn't a fan of the current Trebuchet model so I decided to spice things up a bit.  I wanted something that looks like it would be able to inflict a Str 10 hit and a Str 5 blast and this should.  It is the Bombard model from Zvezda. The crew were a little small being 1/72 but the cannon should work nicely.

 THE COMPENSATOR

Below is my beloved turn counter "The Compensator" next to Sir Francis to give you an idea of the scale.  I picked this up a few years about a TBS Comics in Pensacola.  I must admit it is one of the best gaming purchases I've ever made.

More Blood in the Badlands

Campaign night was this past Monday.  I'm still chasing a demon player around my territory as we are using the only fight one battle a week rule.  Someday soon I'll snag him, I'm applying some pressure on him by sending two banners over into his territory.  He is a new player and I didn't want to even bother him, but when you send a banner into my territory and keep it there is going to cause some issues.

My first campaign game was a loss to the new VC list.  It actually should have been a win, but some stupid moves on my part threw the game away.  So that is always fun.  Here's to this round against demons going a little better.

I also managed to finish cleaning up the green stuff on my second unit of mounted Yeomen which is nice.  Except for the fact I don't think my latest list uses them.....either way at least they will be ready to spring into action.

I'll post my list shortly for game 2.

"It's Clean-Up Time"

Besides coming up with witty Hulk references for my posts I've been doing a good bit of cleaning up recently.  I haven't gone into full minimalist mode throwing away all of my life possessions I have been cleaning and such.  They seem to be onto something with the "less is more" ect ect that you read so much about.

I know I'll never be able to go fully down that route as I love my wargames too much.  It is nice to get ride of all that other stuff that has been piling up.  I did go through and clip all by bits off the sprue and sort them not just by system (40k & Fantasy) but also by faction.  I can now say I can count my Skaven and Ork bits by the pound which is awesome and a bit frightening at the same time.

Still hammering out the last of the green stuff work on the Knights Errant.  Although I am sure I'll need to do more on them after I get the primer on and see more gaps.  The poses are nice enough and I enjoy all the places for heraldry so I'll stick with GW minis.

Also, it looks like we'll be pinning down the date for the Redstone Rumble 2013 soon, deposits being made and all that. Once that has been secured I'll start working on the mission, player packs, and table/terrain wish lists.

Just another day

So finished up with the Warrior Dash in Warrior AL.  Being the first time they had it here I thought I would give it a go.  There were some definite pluses and minuses.

Pluses
  • Course was way more intense that usually.  This is a plus as I normally think they are pretty lame.
  • Directions - Pretty easy to get to being pretty much right of the interstate.
Minuses
  • Parking - Up to $20 this year.  This location had off site parking with a shuttle.  It was nice and all, but I like having ready access to my stuff.
  • Local Parking - After shelling out $20 for parking you notice there are locals selling parking space within walking distance of the event......for cheaper.
  • Non-Course Layout - Awkward. Two leveled with a nice slippery hill.  Not as many bathrooms or as spacious as the TN Dash.

All in all I would go again.  This would not be the Dash I would take first time spectators too though. This is the perfect one for the drive in, run, leave.  So if you want to do the Dash alone or just don't feel like hanging out then the minuses aren't that big of a deal.  Then again I may just be spoiled because the TN location is so awesome.

On the hobby front I did manage to clean up a bit of the green stuff on the Knights Errant.  Not really much to show at this point.  Once I complete the last three I'm sure I'll snap a unit shot.  To differentiate them from Knights of the Realm(KotR) I trimmed all the head and lance "bling" away to make them look a bit plainer.  I also plan on them not having as nice of heraldry as the KotR.  This will give me a unit to practice on and show they haven't completed enough tasks to earn their markings.

I plan to follow the 5th edition Bretonnian heraldry guide more than the 6th ed book.  I like how the 5th edition book allows more of a story to be told than simply being born into that coat of arms.

It's Alive!

So I thought I would give this whole thing a go again.

I am just now getting those Bretonnians built and ready for paint that I won at Ard Boyz.  To make life a little harder on myself my plans are to use Bretonnians as my primary army in 2013 **Gasp**. Helping me to this end they will be used in the up coming Blood in the Badlands campaign that just started.  Game 1 will be versus Vampire Counts.

We are trying to make the campaign more of a narrative so some work will need to be put into backgrounds and such.  Again, we'll see how that goes.

Edit:  Here are the tokens that I painted up for use in the campaign.  The only one I like is the flower and I think it could have turned out a little better.  Such is life.  That is why I started practicing on random tokens before just slapping paint on minis.
