Keep on keeping on

Things are moving along nicely with the Orcs.  I've finishing my first unit (Orclings below)and have finished base-coating my Morax test model.  Nothing really to see with him yet, but hopefully soon  I'm lucky and the motivation keeps up.

                                                                        The group shot

I also got some close ups of the remaining bases.  Now that I have the basic colors down I hope to really start churning out the models.  I know they shouldn't go as fast as the Orclings, but maybe a bit faster than I usually paint.

Step 1... not a fail

Things are up a running on getting the Orcs battle ready, so success.
Like last time the orclings were the first to bravely "volunteer" for the paint brush.  I decided to stick with the standard green.

Shot from the front.

Top down shot of the little guys

The bigger orcs didn't have as much progress, but I was able to get their bases sanded and prepped. They will mostly be individual based, but I'm working to add in some minor scenic bases on 50x50 bases and a couple 25x50.

At the time of the last update I only had one unit complete, now I'm up to two.

Morax group 1

Morax 2

30 Greataxe individually based.  I'm waiting on the kickstarter to arrive to add in the multibased Greataxe orcs.  I should end up with enough for two hordes.

Chariot one step closer.

All and all a good start.  Now with the color scheme picked I hope to really start rolling out the painted models.  Orclings will continue to be the close target to help refine the process then I'll move onto the Orcs.

Orcs Orcs Orcs Orcs

It.....Lives.........Again.......

Through various means I’ve gathered up a sizable force of Kings of War Orcs.  With 2nd edition rolling out and Warhammer blowing up I thought I would get them built and painted. The real kicker being that I am wanting to complete the army by Oct 2nd.  The reason is I want to use the army as a ringer/loaner force at the Redstone Rumble, which is that weekend. I got in on the 2nd kickstarter so there will be even more Orcs in route, but I’m not looking to get them done in time.

The goal will to be to complete a 1k list and a 2k list by Rumble weekend, there are a few things that could get in the way
1)      Laziness
2)      Terrain that needs to be built for the Rumble
3)      Laziness again
4)      Still having to build/customize some of the troops
5)      Prepping the Rumble event and missions

All in all it is a rather ambitious goal, but technically possible.  Either way I hope to show the progress here and at various parts around the interwebs.

As of today below is where I am currently at. Not off to a great start, but it could be worse.

First off is the standard army group shot. Most of it I won't bother showing in detail as they are at the stage of waiting for basing and priming
                                                                   Go-go Army Shot!
The army currently consists of
2 X 10 mounted orcs
20 Two-handed orcs (Morax)
20 Hand weapon & shield orcs
30 Great weapon orcs (Greataxe)
3 trolls
6 bases of Orclings
1 Chariot
20 Two-handed orcs (Morax) which still need assembly, but will be going onto group bases.

More Orcs are in route, but I have just about all I need to get a decent bit of points build/painted

Sadly the boars have some wicked gaps, so I will need to go in and greenstuff before they are ready for basing and paint

                                                                     Tiny but deadly

As I normally do, I tried out new stuff on the crappiest troops (Skaven approach) and did the basing/ect of the Orclings first.  It turned out pretty well and I'll end up basing the rest of the army in the same way.  This has caused me to change how I'll assemble the rest of my models, but it should look much better and hopefully worth the extra time.

                                                               Very much WIP

The first block of Morax was build as if straight out of the box.  This second group could be made the same, but I am looking to take advantage of the Kings of War set up and start off with a 50mm square base. I'll add more terrain/rocks, play with spacing, and generally make each more like a little diorama. My hopes are that with keeping them to 50mm square that they will be usable in Warhammer Fantasy type games that you need to be able to remove casualties.

Nothing special here, I just like the models.

All in all I'm glad I'm finally able to get the motivation to work on the army.  I started Orcs for Warhammer Fantasy at the start of 6th(7th?) but quickly dropped them due to hating animosity.  They are much more brutal in Kings of War and consistent which has gotten me interested in playing them again.

Speaking of which if you haven't tried the 2nd edition of Kings of War the main rules and demo armybooks can be found Here.  I really enjoy it so far and I suggest giving it a serious try.

Hopefully a new army and posting progress will help keep me motivated.
